Six Sigma/Project Management Scenarios A Six Sigma Master Black Belt has been informed that his projects are continually falling behind the baseline set by the Program Office. Using the UI Six Sigma Management tool, the MBB can constantly monitor the status of his projects, use predefined reports that highlight the projects not meeting the baseline or approaching critical levels, or set user-defined notifications to automatically alert when a project is falling behind.
The Program Office in a company deploying Six Sigma is finding it difficult to manage the hundreds of employees needing training. As a result, projects are being placed on hold and the deployment is falling behind its projections. The UI Six Sigma management tool incorporates employee training as one of its modules. Through this module, training classes can be created and managed, project leads can select preferences for class dates based on availability, employees are invited through the system notifications, and training reports constantly monitor the status of training as well as projects dependant on training completion. The manual bottleneck at the Program Office is removed.
Upper management is requesting that financial metrics be supplied by the Program Office to validate the success of the Six Sigma Deployment. These metrics typically require aggregations of financial information from each project covering years of information. The UI Six Sigma management tool supports user-defined financial forecasting, reporting, and archiving. Trend analysis both historically and forecasted is readily available to authorized users.
Black Belts have noticed that their Green Belts are constantly slipping behind schedule in their projects because of a lack of understanding of their project tasks. The Black Belts can either hand-hold the Green Belts through their assignments, or, through the UI Six Sigma management tool, the Program Office can define the tasks necessary for each phase to complete as well as provide explanations and examples of each task. The tasks are directly linked to the project schedule, and slippage in the tasks will automatically alert project leads, mentors and the Program Office that a project may need support.
